Shayne, my dearest friend;
There a lot of change here in our hometown,
The old days is out of our hand,
But the sunlight hour with you
It’s four decades yet retained in my head.
Yesterday, when I’m on my way after school
I couldn’t find anymore the store,
we used to hang out with our high school friends
We buy the street foods along our way home.
The summer we loved so much
Well I guess we can’t do that anymore
Do you still remember?
The huge mango tree in my auntie’s house
That we climb onto, Tatay Luis cut it down
because they had a total renovation in their backyard.
The wooden bridge to Bucal we are afraid to pass by
‘Coz we feel like it will collapse all the time
Well, it’s now just like bridges in other cities,
It is fully reconstructed and well-built.
Now a dashing noise is heard nearby
It’s the new MRT and LRT approaching
There are now a lot of public and private cars
Causing traffics and delay of works
No doubt, people walk above the vehicle
Overpass avoids accidents for them.
The trees of coffee those are abundant before,
They are now become stagnant they lay on store.
People in our place changed the way of living
They altered coffee trees into pineapple plantation
There are a lot of changes through generation,
You won’t believe me when I say,
Fruits we used to eat during became brand names
Through Blackberry and Apple mobile phones we can talk.
What you want to do, you can also watch movie
Our game boy I think is useless now anymore
Really technology, brought changes to society.
Shayne, my dear friend,
How do you find the life there in London?
Every time we have a good time to get along with our friends here,
We still eat our favorite chicken adobo
Cooked and served by the grandma of Nikko.
After all of the tiring but joyful day and driving
them home in my car we always remember you
We miss everything we’ve been through.
Also the moment we were taught by my Papa to drive
Today no more rocky roads all the way,
You can drive now here freely and smoothly.
Before I forgot,
Regards to your sister, Mikey
And to your mother, Tita Chichi and to the rest of the family.
We are looking forward in your homecoming this month of April
It’s my birthday and I know you won’t forget,
I’m VET. I always care !
P.S. Ate Haydn, my eldest sister, just so you know,
She’s now two-month pregnant
Everybody is very excited to see the new member of the family.
